ESTATE SALE / PRICED TO MOVE FAST - 1982 Stamas 44 Center Cockpit Ketch Sailboat
Designed by Bob Johnson of Island Packet fame, this sailboat is a true classic. With big tankage and plenty of updates, it's a good foundation for your next adventure on the water. The boat features 320 gallons of water, 110 gallons of fuel, and 30 gallons of black water tankage.
Re-powered in 2006 with a 100 horsepower Yanmar diesel engine producing 100 horsepower ( $25,000), this sailboat was turned into a motorsailer, which cruises comfortably and economically at slightly over 7 knots.
Other updates include a Sidepower bow thruster (2006 $17,000), rack and pinion steering (2006$17,000) ( more reliable and direct feel steering than hydraulic steering, which is one of the cons of a center cockpit), custom galley and woodwork (2006), Splendide washer dryer combo (2023), Lewmar consol (2006), custom made Mack Sails headsail and mizzen sail (2013), Electroscan black water sterilizer (2018), 16000 btu A/C (2006), mounts for Aitkin Hoyle davits, Ray Marine autopilot (2016), 10 gallon hot water heater, and inverter (2020), and two 30 amp circuits, and ceramic three burner stovetop. The black water hoses, diverters, and thru-hull were all replaced in 2018, and an Electroscan black water sterilizer was added, and toilets rebuilt (2021 aft head, and 2023 Forward head)
The engine is booked for its 1000 hour service, which will be completed by April 10th (988 hours as of March). When not cruising, the boat has mostly always been at a slip plugged into shore power with portable air conditioning on. She was in fresh water Lake Ontario until 2012. Boat comes with freestanding dishwasher, freezer, toaster over, microwave, cutlery, pots and pans, spares.
ATTENTION: The boat needs some TLC and general maintenance that has been deferred, including new bottom paint, life lines, mast boot, cosmetics, bimini and sail cover canvas, swim ladder, components of the electrical system in the engine room are rusted and need rewiring/replacing ( electrical system was last done in 2006 by certified marine contractor and still works fine), custom teak and holly floors need refinishing and a deck hatch cover needs repaired, outside teak is weathered, hull needs buff and wax, and batteries are at the end of their lifespan.
Her present condition, deferred maintenance, and this being essentially an estate sale, are reflected in the price of $35,000 (or best offer after a month or so). That is about half of the asking price of the lowest priced Stamas 44 on the market currently, which does not have the upgrades - none of the ones on the market currently have the upgrades that this boat has.

The systems for living aboard have been maintained. Airconditioning/heating, toilets, electrical, plumbing, galley etc. The systems for navigating, sailing, and anchoring have not been used in over a year, and they may or may not work, and I don't know their status.
If I don’t have a contract by April 10th, I’ll give to a broker and spend some money on her. This is your chance to get her “as is” for much less than the broker will list her for. Current asking price range for this type of boat is $80K -$165K, and they have original engines, hydraulic steering, and no bow thruster which alone cost $59,000 to upgrade).
